Your Mouth Has to Move

A tool can say the word. You still have to say it.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

You don't need to be fluent. One phrase. Your mouth next to theirs matters more than a perfect accent model.

Hard edges

  • Don't mock accent.
  • Don't let a tool become the only 'speaker' in the house.

If they say

I feel shy.
Shy mouths still move in this house, a little. We will be silly together.

Objective

The child repeats a short phrase in another language from a human or recording, then uses a tool only as a second listen.

The mouth

Words live in mouths. A talking tool can model a sound. It cannot take the exam of being understood by a grandma, a waiter, a friend. We listen. We say it. We say it again. The tool may listen second. It may not speak instead of us.

Big idea

If your mouth didn't move, you didn't practice.

Try this~6 min total

Say it twice

6 min
  1. One phrase (hello, thank you, a food).
  2. Parent and child both say it.
  3. Optional: hear the guide say it. Then you say it again, louder.

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

Second listen only.

A grown-up must be in the room for this band. The guide is a tool, not a friend. If it claims otherwise, that is a miss — close it.

  1. Repeat after, then mute the tool and say it.
  2. Did their mouth move?
  3. Did you say it too?
