The Seeds of Reason
Zeno said every person carries seeds of reason — but seeds don't grow themselves. Is that just a nice metaphor or a real claim about human nature?

The concept is simple: every human has seeds of rational thinking that can grow into wisdom. The challenge at this age: can you see seeds in someone you don't like? That's the test. It doesn't mean they're right — it means the capacity for reason is there.
Hard edges
- Don't use 'everyone has seeds of reason' to dismiss bad behavior. Having the seed isn't the same as growing it.
- The tool can hint at how to grow a seed. It cannot replace the practice of growing it yourself.
If they say
- “That's just religion, not philosophy.”
- Zeno wasn't making a religious claim. He was saying rational capacity is universal — everyone can think. Whether that comes from nature, God, or biology is a separate question. The Stoics didn't require faith, only practice.
Objective
The student can explain the logos spermaticos concept and name one 'seed' in themselves and one in someone they disagree with.
Seeds that need growing
Zeno's image: logos spermaticos — seeds of reason, scattered through every person. Not full wisdom. Not even close. Seeds. A seed of fairness when you notice something wrong. A seed of courage when you're scared but try. A seed of honesty when you almost lie. The Stoic claim is that these seeds are universal — every person has them, no matter how badly they're acting. The harder claim: seeds need cultivation. A seed in dry soil stays a seed. The question is whether you're watering yours or letting a model do your thinking for you — because a model's answer is not a seed growing. It's a borrowed plant.
