This is the capstone for the little band. The child runs the full cycle: guess, measure twice, compare to the model, report. The cycle is simple. The habit is the point. The child who can run this cycle once, with a real object, has learned the unit. The child who runs it again next week has a habit. The child who runs it for life has a skill.

  2. Write your GUESS with a unit.
  3. Measure it twice. Write both numbers.
  4. Ask the model: 'How much is [thing]?' Write its number with the unit.
  5. Report: 'I guessed [X]. I measured [Y] and [Z]. The model said [W]. The unit is [unit].'
  6. Talk About It: what did you learn from the whole cycle?
