If you measure the same thing twice and get two different numbers, that is not a mistake. That is how measuring works.

This sitting teaches the child that measurement is not exact. Every measurement has a little wiggle. Weigh the same apple three times. The numbers will be close but not identical. That wiggle is not a failure. It is a property of measurement. The child needs to learn that a single measurement is not 'the' answer. It is one reading. The answer is somewhere near the reading. The wiggle is the honest part.

If they say
- “The scale is broken because the numbers are different.”
- The scale is not broken. The wiggle is normal. If the numbers were always exactly the same, the scale might be hiding the wiggle. The wiggle is honest.
Objective
The child can measure the same thing three times, notice the numbers are not identical, and explain that measurement always wiggles a little.
The wiggle
If you weigh an apple three times, you might get 141, 142, and 140 grams. The apple did not change. The scale wiggled a little. The air moved. Your hand shook. That is not a mistake. That is how measuring works. Every measurement wiggles. The wiggle is small, but it is there. A number without a wiggle is not a measurement. It is a wish.
