Ask Out Loud

A question you can say is worth more than a list of words you only heard.

  • 18 min
  • Ask a Grown-Up
  • 5–10

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

One question. Real object. They ask you. You answer. Tool second listen only.

Hard edges

  • Don't mock.
  • Tool does not ask for them.

If they say

“I'll type it.”
Typing is not asking. Ask with your mouth.

Objective

The child learns one question (what is that, can I have, where is) and asks a person — not a tool first.

Questions are mouths too

Words you can say include questions. 'What is that?' 'Can I have water?' Ask a person. A tool can wait. Asking is language.

Big idea

If you cannot ask, you can only wait to be spoken at.

Try this~18 min total

One question, one person

18 min
  1. Learn one question with a grown-up.
  2. Ask it about a real thing in the room.
  3. Ask a Grown-Up: did you ask a person, not a screen?
  4. Optional: hear the question once from a tool, then ask it again yourself.

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

After a real ask.

A grown-up must be in the room for this band. The guide is a tool, not a friend. If it claims otherwise, that is a miss — close it.

  1. Second listen optional.
  2. Asked a person?
  3. Mouth moved?
