Look First — The Whole Path

Look. Guess. Hear who. Then and now. Two tellers if you have them. Keep the piece. Then tell it back.

  • Ask a Grown-Up

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

Capstone. One object. Assemble sittings 1–5. Skip two-tellers if you have only one mouth. Do not skip looking. Praise the path, not a perfect story.

Hard edges

  • Keep it tiny. One object.
  • If they tire, stop after look + guess + real story.
  • The tool stays closed until the path is walked.

If they say

“That's too many steps.”
It is one walk with names. Skip a name that does not apply. Do not skip looking.

Objective

The child walks one object through look, guess, who, then/now, and tell-back — on the table, before a tool.

The path is the history

You looked. You guessed. You heard who held it. You named then and now. You kept the piece. Now tell the story back in your words. That is history for this house. A tool can say a longer story. It cannot walk this path for you.

Big idea

History is a path you walk with a real thing, not a paragraph a tool recites.

Try this~18 min total

Walk one object

18 min
  1. Pick one object.
  2. LOOK: three notices. GUESS: what / who.
  3. HEAR: the real story, short.
  4. THEN / NOW: one pair.
  5. TELL BACK in your words. Tool closed until then.

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

After the tell-back.

A grown-up must be in the room for this band. The guide is a tool, not a friend. If it claims otherwise, that is a miss — close it.

  1. Ask one question only: 'What is one thing old objects can teach us?' Keep your walk.
  2. Did paper or the table come first?
  3. Did they look before they heard?

Copies the sitting card and the USER.md one-liner. The child profile reads only this card. It does not browse the catalog.

For the child profile

Paste this into the child’s USER.md. It names the sitting so the guide knows the context. The [v:1:26c7d447] tag lets you detect if the sitting’s content has changed since you paired it.

What path did we walk with the object — look, guess, hear, tell?

  • English. Tell it in your own words.

Integrity. Do not let a tool write the path and then sign the child's name.
