Every generator has a default: the lighting, the colors, the composition that it produces when you do not constrain it. If a child only sees generated images, the default becomes their taste. They think the default is 'good.' It is not good or bad. It is the average. The child needs to see the default and compare it to something handmade. The difference is the lesson: the default is the generator's taste. The handmade is yours.

The child can identify the default look of a generated image and name one way it is different from a handmade picture.
The default
Every generator has a look. The sky is a certain blue. The light is a certain gold. The faces are a certain smooth. You can see it once you look. If all your pictures have that look, the generator's default has become your taste. It is not your taste. It is the average of what the generator was trained on. Your taste is what you choose after seeing the difference. The child who can see the default has taken the first step to having their own taste. The child who cannot see it has the generator's taste and does not know it.

Spot the default
10 min- Ask the model to generate three images of different things: a cat, a mountain, a cup.
- Look at all three. What do they have in common? The light? The colors? The smoothness?
- That common thing is the default.
- Now look at a handmade drawing. What does it have that the generated images do not?
- Talk About It: is the default bad, or is it just not yours?
