How to Think · Sitting 5
The Confident Wrong Answer
The dangerous sentence is not the unsure one. It is the finished one that never picked up a burden.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit
This is sitting 1's burden work wearing fluency. Useful before they trust a chat for homework. Let them apply it to a model and to a tidy adult paragraph.
Hard edges
- Health/legal: catch, then a professional — not a thread.
- Do not use this to humiliate a sibling's confidence.
If they say
- “They sounded like they knew.”
- Sounding is the product. Knowing still owes a check.
Objective
The student can catch a fluent wrong or under-proven claim and keep the burden on the claimant — including a model.
Confidence as a special effect
Uncertainty is honest. Confidence is cheap to generate. Online, the map that never stammers wins the room. Write: whose claim, what would count, what the error costs, whether a model is even allowed to speak. Then watch for the special effect: a paragraph that sounds like it already did the experiment. If you cannot name the experiment, you heard a tone. Tones do not hold bridges.
Big idea
Confidence is not a witness. Burden still sits on the claimant.
Try this~16 min total
Catch the confident one
16 min- Take one fluent claim (model, ad, or 'everyone knows').
- Write WHO CLAIMS / BURDEN / WHAT COUNTS / COST OF ERROR.
- Ask the guide to argue. Do not let it become the judge.
- Reflect: where did confidence try to replace showing?
Lesson guide
Ask after you try
The guide argues a weak claim fluently. You keep the burden.
- Interrupt when confidence replaces evidence.
- Did they keep the burden on the claimant?
- Did they name cost of error?
