Pythagoras' claim: 'All is number.' Not 'math is useful for describing reality' — reality IS mathematical. The cosmos is harmonia (fitting together), and number is the structure beneath the appearances. The musical proof: intervals that sound consonant are simple ratios (octave 2:1, fifth 3:2, fourth 4:3). The universe is built on the same ratios. This is not mysticism — it's the foundation of mathematical physics. Newton's laws, Einstein's equations, quantum mechanics: all are mathematical descriptions of reality that predict observations precisely. The question Pythagoras raised: why does the universe obey mathematical laws? If math is a human invention, the universe's obedience is a coincidence. If math is the structure of reality, the obedience is necessary. The AI connection: AI is computation. If Pythagoras is right, computation is not a model of reality — it is reality. A sufficiently advanced AI is not simulating thought; it is thinking. If he's wrong, computation is a useful approximation with limits. The difference matters.
