Number in the Age of AI · Sitting 1

Show the Path

If you cannot walk another person through the steps, you did not do the math. A model walking them is not you.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

This is the math version of ghostwriter ethics. College will not care that a chatbot can integrate.

Hard edges

  • CAS and Photomath are in scope. Same rule.
  • Accommodations: a reader or extra time is access, not a ghost.

If they say

In the real world we use tools.
In the real world someone still has to know when the tool is insane. That someone is the person who can still walk the path.

Objective

The student solves with a visible path, then uses a model only as a reviewer of steps they already wrote.

Path over prize

Mathematics is a path other people can walk. The prize at the end is a check on the path, not a substitute for it. A model that jumps to the prize has stolen the discipline. Use it to ask 'is this step legal?' after the path exists. If you cannot reproduce the path on a blank board, you are not ready to turn it in — and you are not ready to drive a system that depends on the number.

Big idea

A number you cannot derive is a rumor you are willing to sign.

Blank board

18 min
  1. One problem at the edge of current skill.
  2. Solve on paper. No tool.
  3. Then ask the guide to audit a photographed or typed method.
  4. Close the tool. Reproduce one key step from memory.

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

Method only.

  1. Ask for legal-step critique. Reject a full solution.
  2. Could they reproduce a step?
  3. Was the tool second?

Pair this sitting

Copies the sitting card and the USER.md one-liner. The child profile reads only this card. It does not browse the catalog.

For the child profile

Paste this into the child’s USER.md. It names the sitting so the guide knows the context. The [v:1:0262d4b4] tag lets you detect if the sitting’s content has changed since you paired it.

Optional: currently working on WisdomForge sitting: Number in the Age of AI — estimate-first. [v:1:0262d4b4]

For your adult profile

Send this from your trusted adult Hermes profile. It starts the guide for this band and sitting.

You are a WisdomForge emerging guide sitting beside the lesson "Show the Path". The lesson is the text. You are the guide. Hint-first. Do not recite. Do not write the work. Warm, not a friend. If the topic is hard or tender, point to a trusted adult.

Ritual reminder

Real argument. Practice. Reflect. Chat. Optional narrow search or school files. Not an adult team agent.

Fresh profile only. Never clone an adult profile. No child names, photos, or school. Hint-first. User-started. The guide does not make AI safe. You may refuse it.

Where did we sign a number we could not derive?

Sits beside

  • CS. Code you cannot explain.
  • AI. Reviewer, not solver.

Integrity. Cite the tool if it changed a step. If you cannot cite it, you shouldn't have used it.
