The student speaks three minutes on a simple topic with no typing first, then drills holes.

Time-bounded

Conversation is timed and human. Crafting a perfect paragraph in a chat is composition. Both have a place. Only one transfers to the street, the interview, the border.

Big idea

Closed chat is the exam. Open chat is rehearsal if you already spoke.
