Do Not Applaud the Finish

A house that treats finished prose as proof will believe the most confident paragraph — including yours.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

Your catch is the curriculum. If you only catch the child's smoothness, they will hide. Catch an ad or your own rant first.

Hard edges

  • Do not use the catch as a gotcha against the child.
  • Apply it to your feed first.

If they say

“I'll look like I don't know anything.”
NOT YET is knowledge. Applauding a costume is the thing that looks sure and is empty.

Objective

The adult catches one fluent claim (ad, rant, or model) in front of the child and runs the check on their own mouth first.

Finished is not checked

'The model said' and 'I read it somewhere' are both costumes. A child watching you accept a finished paragraph learns that checking is for school. Catch one fluent claim at the table. Use the same words you want them to use. WisdomForge can print the prompt. Only you can refuse to applaud the finish.

Big idea

The catch becomes a habit when the adult uses it on their own sentences.

Try this~10 min total

Catch yours first

10 min
  1. Name one fluent claim you almost believed today.
  2. Say how we know — or NOT YET — out loud.
  3. Write the catch on the family rule card next to 'how do we know?'

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

Optional. Model the catch on a fluent paragraph you almost believed.

  1. You, not the child, catch the guide's smoothness.
  2. Did you catch yourself?
  3. Is the wording actually spoken?
