The Circle Is for You Too

Parents spend nights outside the circle: other drivers, other children's posts, the school's AI policy. Come back in.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

You will be tempted to preach the circle at a child who is drowning. Don't. Use it on your own rumination. Protect them; don't philosophize them into silence.

Hard edges

  • Bullying, abuse, and medical fear are not 'outside the child's control, so drop it.' They are inside yours.
  • Don't skip Epictetus's enslavement to keep dinner polite. One honest sentence is enough.

If they say

If I don't worry, I'm not a good parent.
Worry is not the work. The inside act is.

Objective

The adult sorts one live parental worry and refuses to use Stoicism as a shutdown of a child.

Two circles

Yours and theirs. You cannot make them choose well by lecturing the dichotomy while you doomscroll their future. Your circle: presence, house rules, the sitting, the call to the school. Their circle: the next try. A model that parents for you is outside both. The original WisdomForge booklet remains the text. This assist is so you can sit it without bluffing.

Big idea

Teach the circle by using it on your own night, not as a muzzle.

Parent sort

10 min
  1. Write the worry that stole last night.
  2. Inside / outside.
  3. One inside act for this week (a sitting, a rule, a call).
  4. Tell the child the circle without using it against them.

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

Optional. Ask for a question that returns you to an inside act. No child names.

  1. Close after one question.
  2. Did you protect rather than preach?
  3. Is there a real inside act?

Ritual reminder

Adult profile is the workshop. Child profiles are separate. Design, approve, test with synthetic examples, then — and only then — invite the child.

Fresh profile only. Never clone an adult profile. No child names, photos, or school. Hint-first. User-started. The guide does not make AI safe. You may refuse it.
