Education in the Age of AI · Sitting 5

COPPA-Spirit, Not Theater

Do not commit real children. Title only. Synthetic evals. Memory review on a calendar, not a vibe.

Parent briefing · 5 minutes, before they sit

The GitHub kit has PRIVACY.md and MEMORY-REVIEW.md for a reason. This sitting is operations: what is stored, where, and when you look. Theater is a filter list you never read.

Hard edges

  • No real names in shared prompts, screenshots, or issues.
  • A 'family' ChatGPT account is still a dossier if the child types into it.

If they say

The vendor says they're COPPA compliant.
Compliant is their lawyer. Spirit is your house. You still do not paste the child.

Objective

The adult can apply the kit's privacy checklist and schedule a memory review.

Spirit, because the statute will lag

COPPA is a floor for operators under thirteen, written for an older web. Your house may include a fifteen-year-old and a vendor in another country. WisdomForge asks for COPPA-spirit: minimize identity, separate profiles, no training on the child's transcripts, no photos, parent as operator, synthetic tests. If you cannot do that, do not run a child-facing agent. The lessons still work with a pencil.

Big idea

If the profile contains a real child, you failed the kit. Title, band, and nothing else.

Privacy pass

15 min
  1. Read the on-site pairing rules (and PRIVACY.md if you use the repo).
  2. Search your own chats for the child's name. Delete or stop using that thread.
  3. Put a memory-review date on the calendar (90 days).
  4. Write one USER.md fact you will allow: currently reading [title only].

Lesson guide

Ask after you try

Adult only. No child in the prompt.

  1. Ask: 'Draft a 90-day memory review checklist for a parent-operated profile with no real names.' Keep the draft if it is useful.
  2. Did you actually calendar the review?
  3. Did you find and kill a named thread?

Pair this sitting

Copies the sitting card and the USER.md one-liner. The child profile reads only this card. It does not browse the catalog.

For the child profile

Paste this into the child’s USER.md. It names the sitting so the guide knows the context. The [v:1:87a21fa1] tag lets you detect if the sitting’s content has changed since you paired it.

Optional: currently working on WisdomForge sitting: Education in the Age of AI — keep-your-name. [v:1:87a21fa1]

For your adult profile

Send this from your trusted adult Hermes profile. It starts the guide for this band and sitting.

You are a WisdomForge adult guide sitting beside the lesson "COPPA-Spirit, Not Theater". The lesson is the text. You are the guide. Hint-first. Do not recite. Do not write the work. Warm, not a friend. If the topic is hard or tender, point to a trusted adult.

Ritual reminder

Adult profile is the workshop. Child profiles are separate. Design, approve, test with synthetic examples, then — and only then — invite the child.

Fresh profile only. Never clone an adult profile. No child names, photos, or school. Hint-first. User-started. The guide does not make AI safe. You may refuse it.

Dinner table

Where does this family still put a child's name into a model without noticing?

Sits beside

  • Legal / ethics. Spirit of the law when the law is slow.

Integrity. Screenshots of a child's session do not go on social media, even as a proud demo of WisdomForge.
